Tour Auto 2018 itinéraire route

The combination of ‘special stages’, ‘race circuits’ and ‘road sections’ is one of the key ingredients to the success of the Tour Auto Optic 2000. So as to keep things interesting for the competitors, the route is changed each year. Thus the competitors join the timed stages in discovering France by an expertly chosen itinerary bringing together tourism and gastronomy whilst avoiding the motorways.

The elaboration of a new itinerary every year is quite an achievement. After tracing the main lines and checking the principal legs, many reconnaissance trips are necessary to choose the most beautiful roads, while respecting a precise schedule. A real challenge considering the many requirements: stopover towns capacity ; lunch places ; circuits and special stage approved…

Since its creation, the Tour Auto has placed culture and history in the forefront. If the start is always from Paris (la Défense, the Trocadéro, the Invalides, the Tuileries Garden, the Grand Palais), many of internationally renowned historical sites have welcomed the rally, such as the Château de Fontainebleau, the Palais des Papes of Avignon, the Baux de Provence, the Abbaye de Fontenay…

The Tour Auto has stopped at most the French circuits. It has even ventured over the hexagonal frontiers, with visits to the Nürburgring and to Spa-Francorchamps. Taken by the Tour de France Auto at the time, the WRC or theatres of the most renowned hill climb races, most of the special road stages are also high places of motors sports. Impossible not to name the Mont Ventoux, Marchampt, Chamrousse, Burzet, Saint Bonnet le Froid, the Turini…
