Peter Auto’s Sixties’ Endurance grid went to the Middle East for the first time to do battle in its final races of the year on the Sakhir international circuit in the kingdom of Bahrain. This event, called the Bahrain Classic Challenge, was held on 30th November – 1st December as part of the Bahrain GT Festival organised by the SRO Motorsports Group.

Free practice and qualifying took place on Friday and were followed by two one-hour races on Saturday on this track laid out in the desert. The first two places in the scratch classification in both events went to British drivers Oliver and Graham Bryant in their 1964 Shelby Cobra just ahead of Spaniard Guillermo Fierro in his 1960 Maserati T61. Into third in race 1 came Benjamin Monnay at the wheel of his 1964 Shelby Cobra, and in race 2 Edwin Stucky and Ludovic Cholley in their 1964 Shelby Cobra Daytona were on the last step of the podium.

Fabrice Mestrot in his 1954 Triumph TR4 came first in the Index of Performance classification in the opening event, from Fierro in his 1960 Maserati T61 and Patrick Hello driving a 1957 Lotus XI 1500. In the second, Fierro in his 1960 Maserati T61 triumphed from Oliver and Graham Bryant in their 1964 Shelby Cobra and Malte Müller-Wrede driving a 1965 Marcos 1800 Gt.

The last event in 2018 combined the pleasures of discovering a new environment in hot weather with a complete change of scenery and a convivial ambience to bring down the curtain on what has been a season rich in exceptional races. Roll on next year!
